One of the traits that have made Marlene Siersema successful is her ability of merging her left brain practical business strategies, with her right brain creative talents, in developing companies and award winning products.
She has started, developed and spun off five companies. She refers to herself as a “serial entrepreneur”. Her knowledge includes working with some of the finest and diverse Fortune 500 companies, numerous mid-range and start-ups in a wide range of industries: from computers to beauty products. At Motorola her team increased sales from $800,000 to $34 million in two years. She became Vice President of marketing at a portable display systems company and promptly increased sales by 300% in one year.
In the early 1980’s Marlene’s entrepreneurial energies took over she opened her own company. With the team she assembled and for her first client they launched the first lap-top “clam-shell” computer. During this time she pioneered several proprietary training processes that have become “standards” in the Trade Show industry. Her insightful creative influence has repeatedly resulted in expanding sales, increasing customer loyalty base and creating revenue volume.
Marlene said during an interview:
“I felt like ‘miss-Hollywood’ when I wrote, produced and directed video and audio training programs for the beauty industry. The purple hair and wild music was not the usual training program I was use to producing for a computer company. This wild training video program was necessary as I had invented an award winning salon product called: Crystal Film. This was a time saving product and system. Made for the professional hair stylist, the product was reusable and recyclable. Replacing foil in the color processing of hair in the salon, in 1986, this product was ahead of its time. Crystal Film was acquired by another company and is selling today as a professional styling tool.” This without being a hair-stylist
Marlene’s first book Marketing’s Silent Language is a testament to her ability for innovative logic and creativity in the development of an added segmentation process for precision target marketing. Learning to use color properly for businesses can be a challenge. She invented the Color Centric System: A logical step by step method for taking each individual marketing campaign along a more structured path in developing the correct colors for the particular markets, market segments, products or environmental needs.
In her latest book, If you’re not Kissed by the gods, drastic measures are necessary, scheduled for release 2006, she steps out of the business world to help others with the struggle of weight loss. Often you will find that her animation characters and voices creep into her presentations for an entertaining approach to new ideas . She loves training people. People laugh and learn at the same time. Marlene’s passion for people comes through as she inspires and challenges them to become spirited and gutsy to make changes necessary whether business or personal.
From her bachelors degree in Interior Design through her graduate degree in psychology as applied to marketing and sales, Marlene is truly a dichotomy in passions.
